The Black Plastic Tarp Tent 2023 Part 1

Trying out some of this all-the-rage ‘wild’ camping:

In November the old Vaude tent from the 90s was lost or misplaced so there was no option but improvise with the only thing available – some black plastic sheeting, duct tape and paracord.

Needless to say sleep didn’t really come into it: too cold and the pine needles were too hard a bed!

The second attempt involved much more technology in the form of high lofting sleeping mats.

Gonyet, Artic Lorry, Semi Tractor Trailer – rolled on its side

Came across this when out for a walk and went back the next day to see what was going to happen. The owner had driven out from Harare and ordered the massive breakdown truck which simply and easily pulled it back over in a oner – the video is on Facebook! The person who had leased it was also there, as was the driver who had accepted the load! After some checking it started first go.

Day 1:

Day 2:

Oxygen and home-made Acetylene in Gazaland

Well this is original. In Gazaland, Harare, and so presumably elsewhere, oxyacetylene gas welding is done using cylinders of oxygen with converted fire extinguishers full of water and a chunk of Calcium Carbide (CaC2) which produces Acetylene (C2H2). This reaction used to be used for mining lamps and caving lights.

Glasgow’s miles better

Free galleries and museums, and the best science museum ever, with hands-on activities relating to O grade / O level physics! (This one is not free but well worth it.)

Kelvingrove (free: it’s got a bit of everything although the Dali is out on loan – Aug 2023!)

Kibble Palace of tree ferns at the Botanical gardens (free):

Glasgow Cathedral with St Mungo, and the Necropolis!

And the rest:

And, if you need acupuncture while in town this is where to go:
