The Menzi ridge route: walking out

Looking back at the end of the ridge you can see why we took the southern spur down – out of sight in this picture of the northern side: the cliffs on the northern (and eastern) faces.

Next time we’re going to backtrack on the ridge and take this northward spur.

Northward spur coming off the Menzi ridge before the end.

Pretty good view back to the start of the ridge

Now we have to start looking northwards on the long hot trek across the Menzi valley.

Rondavels on the way up Dazi side

Rondavel and strawberry patch on the way up Dazi side

Don’t get too comfortable, it really is this steep in places – look at the upright stalk of the fern lower right corner!

It really is this steep and bothersome

Part way up Dazi side it levels out briefly. You can see the ascent ahead.

Our regular rest stop to re-hydrate by this potato munda

Classic view out over the Menzi ridge

Climbing up Dazi side now and looking back at the Menzi ridge

Tree fern, mufenje, aloe, more tree ferns

Interesting type of fern that grows on shaded and south facing older trees. This in a grove over a Shona ‘pit’ structure in the ground

Relief for the dogs anyway
